The UK and Norway Scared off Russian Submarines
The UK and Norway have carried out a military operation to deter Russian submarines suspected of “hostile activities” in the North Atlantic.
A frigate, aircraft and hundreds of personnel took part in the operation to monitor a Russian attack submarine and two spy submarines in the vicinity of underwater infrastructure in the North Atlantic.
The aim was to send a message to Russia, said British Defence Secretary John Healey during a press conference:
“We are monitoring your activities near our cables and pipelines, and you should know that any attempt to damage them will not be tolerated and will have serious consequences.”
After a month of surveillance, the Russian submarines left the area.
