Norway and the UK to Hunt Russian Submarines

04 Dec, 2025

Norway and the United Kingdom are to enter into a new defence agreement which, among other things, will involve a joint fleet of warships ‘hunting Russian submarines,’ according to the British government.

One of the aims of the agreement is to protect underwater infrastructure, such as cables.

The announcement comes after the UK Ministry of Defence stated that the number of Russian vessels sighted in British waters has increased by 30 per cent over the past two years.

‘The goal is for Norway and the United Kingdom to forge even closer military ties in order to strengthen NATO’s northern flank,’ Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said in a press release.
