Three Shark Attacks in one Day in Sydney

20 Jan, 2026

Three people, including two children, have been attacked by sharks in the waters around Sydney in a short period of time, according to the emergency services in the Australian city.

The latest attack occurred in Manly on Monday evening. A man was seriously injured when a shark bit him in the water.
Earlier that day, an 11-year-old boy escaped unharmed when a shark bit his surfboard at Dee Why Point, a little further north in the metropolitan area.

Further south, in Vaucluse, a shark attacked a twelve-year-old boy the day before. He suffered serious injuries to his legs and is being treated in hospital.
The incidents occurred after heavy rainfall in the area, which experts say makes the water murky and attracts sharks closer to the beaches. All beaches in northern Sydney were closed after the three attacks.
