‘Adapt’ – EU warns of global warming
Europe must prepare better for global warming, urges the EU.
However, the new measures have been met with criticism.
Tuesday’s new ‘climate resilience framework’ promises, amongst other things, a new online service to monitor climate threats and provide advice on practical ways to cope with the warming that the EU estimates will reach at least 2 degrees by 2050 and 3 degrees by 2100.
“Europe is warming twice as fast as the rest of the world. We must adapt and learn as we go,” writes Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in a press release.
Not everyone is impressed, however.
“Far too vague. Climate adaptation cannot be done half-heartedly,” writes, for example, Swedish MEP Heléne Fritzon (S).
