3,000 Migrants Died in 2025 on their Way to Spain
More than 3,000 migrants died in 2025 while attempting to reach Spain, according to a report.
According to the organisation behind the report, this is a sharp decrease compared to the previous year.
According to the Spanish rights organisation Caminando Fronteras, the vast majority of the 3,090 migrants who attempted to reach Spain in 2025 died in the Atlantic Ocean on their way to the Canary Islands – a route considered particularly dangerous.
Last year, more than 10,000 migrants died while trying to reach Spain, according to the organisation.
So far this year, nearly 40,000 migrants have reached Spain, which is a 40 per cent decrease compared to last year.
