Suspect investigated for shark deaths in Lysekil
A person has now been served with suspicion of a violation of the Fisheries Act after over a hundred spiny sharks and rays were dumped in a harbor in Lysekil this spring. Reported by radio P4 West today.
Prosecutor James von Reishar tells P4 that the Coast Guard has conducted several interviews with the suspect and that an indictment is expected within a few weeks.
It was at the end of March this year that Deep Sea Reporter’s photographer Thobias Dahlin was first to report about that a group of marine biology students discovered the dying fish on the bottom of a harbor in Lysekil.
James von Reis has previously told Deep Sea Reporter that the punishment for serious fishing crimes is so-called standardized fines. It is a punishment that is only handed out for commercial fishing offenses and can be about a lot of money because it is not based on the annual income, but is related to the power of the vessels engine.
