Source: French UN resolution on the Strait of Hormuz

France is working on a new resolution for the UN Security Council with the aim of bringing an end to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, an anonymous diplomat has told several media outlets.

France wants to work together with the US and its allies on a Security Council resolution guaranteeing freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, the source said, according to AFP.

In April this year, Russia and China vetoed a draft resolution calling for the Strait of Hormuz to be opened.

The Strait of Hormuz is being blocked by Iran, whilst the US Navy is blocking Iranian maritime traffic in the area.
