13 Nov, 2025

Angela Sondenaa belongs to the Siletz tribe in the American state of Oregon. After living in other places for many years, she has returned home and is now participating in a project to bring back the sea otters that have disappeared from the coast.

She talks about reclaiming the connection with the Ocean and heritage, as her tribe also regained their rights to their ancestral lands.

‘If our oceans collapse, our ecosystems and our entire planet will collapse too.’

This report is part of the documentary ‘Voices of our Ocean’, which is being shown in connection with the UN’s ongoing climate summit in Brazil. In their own words and with selected images, they talk about their relationship with the sea, the urgent need to protect it and how climate change is affecting and transforming their lives. Hear each of them share their story.
