Nämndö Archipelago, in the Baltic Sea, Becomes a Marine National Park

The swedish government is proposing to make the Nämdö Archipelago a new national park – the first marine national park in the Baltic Sea.

It is a unique area in the Stockholm archipelago with very high natural values that is easy to visit, the government justifies its decision.

‘Now we are protecting the unique landscape and contributing to the goal of protecting 30 per cent of the Baltic Sea, ensuring a sustainable future for our marine ecosystems,’ said Minister for Climate and Environment Romina Pourmokhtari (L) in a statement.

The government plans to open the Nämdö Archipelago National Park in September this year. The Kosterhavet National Park, inaugurated in 2009, is currently Sweden’s only purely marine national park.
