In Deep Sea Reporter’s previous reportage The Time of the Seals , we followed the grey seals during their difficult first days of life. Many cows perish during this period, and at the time of filming, the researchers brought four dead seals to investigate the causes of death.

Wildlife pathologist Elina Thorsson has now autopsied the dead pups, and in this follow-up report we get to know the results.

“By taking in the few animals we find dead, we can get a snapshot of how that particular animal was doing,” she says.
