Few fish species are as interesting as sharks and rays. These ancient cartilaginous fish have existed and evolved in the Earth’s oceans for nearly 400 million years.
The Swedish species are no exception. They also attract attention and fascination.
Around 30 species of cartilaginous fish have been recorded in Sweden. Of these, there are four species that divers have a reasonable chance of encountering beneath the surface of the Swedish west coast. These are the spiny dogfish, the smooth-hound, the porbeagle and the small-spotted catshark.
In the first part of our two-part programme series on SWEDISH SHARKS AND RAYS, you will meet the spiny dogfish and the smooth-hound.
