Died on the Way to Europe – Thrown Into the Sea

29 Mar, 2026

More than 20 migrants have died off the coast of Greece, reports AFP.

On Friday, 26 people were rescued from the sea off the coast of Crete by a vessel from the EU border agency Frontex.

On Saturday, survivors reported that a further 22 people were on board the rubber dinghy when it left Libya for Europe last weekend. The dead are said to have been thrown into the sea on the orders of human traffickers on board.

The migrants are said to have been at sea for six days – without food or water – before the rescue took place. Two suspected smugglers have been arrested by the Greek authorities.
